WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A well-balanced Virginia Tech volleyball team paced their way to a 3-1 victory over Wake Forest on Friday night as three Hokies registered double-doubles in the contest.

The Hokies improve to 14-7 overall and 5-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference while the Demon Deacons dip to 10-11, 2-7 in conference play.

Tech showed its prowess throughout the match, attacking at a .347 clip with four Hokies registering over a .300 clip. Amanda McKinzie led the Hokies with 19 kills and 10 digs. Fellow outside hitter Lindsey Owens tallied 16 kills and a team-high of 17 digs in the frame. Kennedy Bryan rounded out the double-digit kills with 13 while three added five apiece. Rhegan Mitchell registered her third-consecutive double-double, totaling 34 assists and 10 digs.

Kylie Long paved the way for the Demon Deacons, registering 13 kills. Hanna Lee and Matalee Reed added nine but the Hokies held the squad to a mere .135 attack percentage.

Tech jumped on the board early, taking a commanding five-point lead. McKinzie slugged four her seven kills in the opening set consecutively to attack at a .636 rate. Attacking at a .433 clip in the opening set, the Hokies secured the 25-20 win.

Mirroring set one, Tech leapt to an early lead, extending the margin to seven by the 18-11 mark. Wake Forest kept the score within reach early in the frame but Tech walked away with 25-16 victory. Owens steadied the Hokies, hitting 6-for-7 with six digs. McKinzie added four more to the Hokies set two total.

The Demon Deacons showed their fight in the third frame as the Hokies slipped behind early. Tech encroached on Wake Forest’s lead, narrowing the gap to 20-21. However, the Demon Deacons clinched the 25-22 decision.

Virginia Tech and Wake Forest went back-and-forth throughout the frame, battling through 11 tie scores and five lead changes. Cara Cunningham kept the Demon Deacons at bay with her two of five blocks in the frame. However, McKinzie’s six kills, followed by Bryan’s four, clinched the 25-22 victory.

Tech returns to action on Sunday at Duke for a noon matchup streamed on ESPN3/RSN.
