BLACKSBURG – After a split weekend on the road, the Hokies return home to Cassell Coliseum, serving as host to Atlantic Coast Conference opponents Clemson and Georgia Tech. Both matches will be televised beginning with Friday’s Clemson match at 7 p.m. on ESPN3 and concluding with Sunday’s Georgia Tech contest on the ACC Regional Sport Networks.
The Hokies and Yellow Jackets enter the weekend both with a 12-6 overall record, 3-3 in conference play. Clemson’s Tigers travel with a 5-13 mark, 0-6 in the ACC.
Tech resumes play following a 1-1 weekend against Boston College and Syracuse. The Hokies dominated the court Friday night with a three-set sweep over the Eagles, hitting .404 as a team. Kennedy Bryan, Lindsey Owens, and Jaila Tolbert each attacked above a .400 clip, as Bryan led with a .529 rate and 10 kills. Virginia Tech came from behind in set one to lead 2-1 going into the fourth set. However, the Hokies could not secure the win despite 18 and 15 kills by Owens and Byran, respectively.
Amanda McKinzie and Owens pave the way for the Hokies’ offense, tallying 236 and 228 kills, respectively. Owens is on pace to reach the 1,000-kill mark with her 939 to date. Middle blockers Bryan and Ashley Battle own the team-best hitting percentages of .340 and .336, respectively, to put them on the ACC’s leaderboards.
Scouting the Tigers:
Clemson travels for the second time since beginning conference play to face Virginia Tech Friday on ESPN3 then Pitt Sunday. The Tigers are winless in the ACC with their last conference victory against NC State in 2014. Clemson narrowly fell in five sets to Notre Dame last weekend but the home crowd worked in favor of the Irish. The young Clemson team is lead by junior Leah Perri who totals 237 kills, 95 digs, and 34 blocks.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets:
Following a 1-1 outcome at home, Georgia Tech heads to Pittsburgh before facing Virginia Tech on the ACC Regional Sport Networks. The Yellow Jackets fell in straight sets to the now 25th-ranked Louisville Cardinals last Friday before sweeping Notre Dame Sunday afternoon. Teegan Van Gunst leads the Yellow Jackets with 251 kills and 193 digs.
The Series:
The Hokies hold an aggragate record of 17-29 over this weekend’s opponents. Tech leads Clemson 6-4 at home but trails 8-17 overall. The last four meetings of the two squads have come down to five sets with the Hokies most recent victory in 2011. Tech trails the Georgia Tech series 9-12 overall but squad swept the Yellow Jackets in their last meeting.

The Hokies hit the road next weekend for two matches next Friday at Wake Forest followed by Sunday at Duke. The match with the Blue Devils will be aired on ESPN3/RSN.
