Tech sweeps Boston College, 3-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Powerful hitting through each set led the Virginia Tech volleyball team in the 3-0 victory over Boston College Friday night in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The Hokies improve to 12-5, 3-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Eagles dip to 9-8, 1-4 in ACC play.

The Hokies attacked at a .404 clip throughout the match with their highest rating of .600 in set two. Lindsey Owens secured the top spot with 14 kills followed by both Amanda McKinzie and Kennedy Bryan who added 10 apiece. Ashley Battle tallied seven blocks, including two solo blocks in the squad's 3-0 decision.

Boston College's Katty Workman and Sol Calvete led the squad with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Three Eagles recorded three solo blocks in the contest but the team ultimately fell short on Friday night.

The Hokies started off with the early lead but the Eagles evened it up with 12 tie scores followed by six lead changes. However, Kennedy Bryan hit 5-for-8 to steady the team. Haley Price recorded her first collegiate ace in the first set, lifting Tech to the 26-24 win.

Tech jumped to an early 4-1 lead in set two. However Boston College came back to maintain a two-point margin until tying up the set at 23-all. However, a Hokies' kill by McKinzie put the Tech ahead to secure the 25-23 decision.

Virginia Tech fell behind early in the third frame to a 1-4 deficit but the Hokies quickly claimed the 5-4 lead. The Eagles kept the margin within two but Tech held on to the lead through the remainder of the match, securing the 25-19 win.

The Hokies take the court on Sunday, facing Syracuse at 1 p.m. on ESPN3.
