GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Lindsey Owens has been selected to the 2015 preseason all-ACC volleyball team. The Hokies secured the eighth spot in the rankings as announced in the preseason poll by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Friday.

Tech received 108 points to secure the eighth slot in the ACC despite the sixth place finish in 2014. The Hokies edged No. 12 Illinois and No. 21 Duke to conclude last season with six straight wins and a 17-14 overall record, 10-8 ACC.

Lindsey Owens, a junior from Orlando, Fla., is the lone Hokie to appear on the ACC preseason all-conference team. Owens garnered spots on the ACC all-conference and VaSID all-state first teams last season as she led the Hokies in kills with 400 and ranked 10th in the ACC with a 3.42 attacking percentage. Virginia Tech is one of 10 schools to have an athlete on the preseason team.

North Carolina, with 190 of 196 total points, is the favorite to repeat as the conference champions followed by Florida State with 189 points. First-place votes were awarded 14 points, second place received 13 points, etc. Coaches were not allowed to include their own team in their predicted order of finish.

The 2015 season gets underway on Friday, Aug. 28, with 14 of the conference’s teams in action. The Hokies begin their season at home at 2 p.m., hosting East Tennessee State in the Radford/Virginia Tech Invite.
