BLACKSBURG Va. – Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Owens and senior right side Kathryn Caine earned spots on the 2014 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State teams as announced on Friday by the organization. Owens was named to the first team while Caine was tabbed a second team honoree.
Owens is coming off a strong sophomore campaign, having earned All-ACC honors as previously announced. She led the Hokies throughout the season, averaging 3.42 kills per set to rank 10th in the ACC. She tallied double-digit kills 23 times during the season, including four matches with 20 or more and a career-high of 26 at Louisville. In addition, the Orlando, Fla. native was strong on the defensive side with 312 digs and 75 blocks. Owens had double-digit digs 15 times and recorded double-doubles in 14 matches. The outside hitter recorded a stretch of five matches with double-doubles during the season.
Caine picks up her third VaSID honors as a senior. She has already earned AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention and All-ACC recognition this year. The McLean, Va. native averaged 2.31 kills per set this season while hitting .302 on the attack. She finished her career ranked fifth in the Tech record book in hitting percentage with .318. The senior right side/middle blocker hit double-digit kills in 15 matches this season, including a career-high 18 at Clemson. In addition to her offensive efforts, Caine tallied 66 blocks.
