Tech takes to the road for a pair of matches
Hokies travel to rival Virginia and Pittsburgh

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team is set to travel to Charlottesville, Virginia for a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Nov. 14 against rival UVA before making the trip to Pittsburgh on Sunday, Nov. 16 for a 1 p.m. start time.

THE HOKIES (11-14, 4-8 ACC)
Virginia Tech is coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 8 North Carolina. Amanda McKinzie led the Hokies with nine kills while Kathryn Caine tallied eight and Lindsey Owens posted seven.

Owens leads Tech on the season, averaging 3.29 kills per set. Caine is chipping in 2.41 kps and McKinzie is recording 2.0 kps. Jordan Fish and Kyra Coundourides split time in the setter spot with Fish putting up 6.39 assists per set and Coundourides with 4.55 aps.

On the defensive side, the Hokies’ Megan Beckwith is recording 3.4 digs per set for the backline defense while Ashley Battle has recorded 114 blocks on the season, averaging 1.16 per set.

THE CAVALIERS (15-11, 8-5 ACC)
Virginia dropped a 3-1 decision to Miami the last time out despite three players tallying double-digit kills. Tori Janowski led the charge with 16 while Haley Kole tallied 15 and Jasmine Burton knocked down 14.

Janowski leads the ‘Hoos on the season, averaging 3.02 kps. Jasmine Burton is adding 3.0 kps. Lauren Fuller runs the offense at the setter position, averaging 10.66 aps.

The Cavaliers’ defense is led in the backcourt by Lexi Riccolo’s 3.01 dps. Natalie Bausback has posted 104 blocks this season to average just shy of one block per set.

THE PANTHERS (21-4, 9-3 ACC)
Pittsburgh downed Wake Forest 3-0 the last time out. Kate Yeazel tallied 11 kills in the match while Casey Durham chipped in eight.

Jessica Wynn leads the Panthers this season with 3.27 kps. Maria Genitsaridi and Yeazel are both tallying 2.62 kps. Pitt splits time in the setter position with Lindsey Zitzke and Jenna Jacobson putting up 6.68 and 5.36 aps, respectively.

Defensively, Delaney Clesen is recording 4.57 dps and Jenna Potts is putting back 1.29 bps at the net.

ALL-TIME vs. THE OPPONENTS
Virginia holds the slight 33-30 lead in the all-time series, but the Hokies are looking to snap a three-match losing streak to the Cavaliers. UVA won the meeting earlier this season in a five-set match at Cassell Coliseum. Caine knocked down 16 kills for the Hokies while the ‘Hoos were led by Natalie Bausback’s 13 kills.

Pitt leads the series 5-3, but the Hokies won the meeting in Cassell less than two weeks ago, 3-1. Owens had 14 kills for Tech on the offensive side, while the defense efforts were strong as the Hokies tallied 15.5 team blocks. Ashley Battle posted 10 for Tech, including three solos. The Panthers were led by 11 kills from Amanda Orchard.

Tech will return to Cassell to wrap up the 2014 home slate, hosting Wake Forest on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. The Hokies will host Senior Night on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. against Georgia Tech.
