CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team fell to No. 8 North Carolina 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-14) on Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Amanda McKinzie led the Hokies (11-14, 4-8 ACC) with nine kills while Kathryn Caine added eight and Lindsey Owens chipped in seven. Jordan Fish put up 24 assists and Kyra Coundourides had 11.

Owens, McKinzie and Megan Beckwith each had nine digs on the defensive side.

In the opening set, the Hokies kept it close, trailing 15-13 midway through. UNC extended its advantage to 20-16, but Tech rallied to cut it to one point and 21-20. The Hokies were again within one point at 24-23, but Carolina used a kill from Lauren McAdoo to take the final point.

Carolina took to the lead in the second set, going up 15-8 past the midpoint. The Hokies would get no closer than seven as UNC took the second 25-17.

Tech trailed UNC 14-10 midway through the third, before the Tar Heels went on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 21-10. The Hokies were unable to get a run going on the offensive side as the Heels took the third set 25-14, securing the match.

Paige Neuenfeldt posted 12 kills for the Tar Heels (20-2, 11-1 ACC). Leigh Andrew added nine kills. On the defensive side, Ece Tanner posted 10 digs and Victoria McPherson tallied 10 blocks.

The Hokies are back on the court at Virginia on Friday, Nov. 14 in a 7 p.m. match at Memorial Gymnasium in Charlottesville, Virginia.
