The two teams kept It close with Marshall hold the 21-19 advantage, but the Hokies responded to the challenge, scoring the next six capped by an ace from Beckwith to secure the set point to give Tech the 25-21 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the final set, Marshall took control early and was up 14-10 just past midway. The Hokies responded with a 7-2 run to take its first lead since the opening rallies at 17-16 off a block from LaTasha Samson-Akpan and Katie Krueger. Marshall again surged ahead, going on top 21-18 late in the set. Tech put together the counterstrike scoring the next three points to reclaim the lead at 22-21. The two teams were tied up at 23, but a kill from Battle followed by a Marshall error gave the Hokies the points to win 25-23 and take the match 3-0.
