BLACKSBURG, Va. – Twelve home games, including a home tournament, plus 18 games in the ACC highlight the 2014 Virginia Tech volleyball schedule, as announced on Thursday.
The schedule features 11 matches against teams that made the 2013 NCAA Tournament, including Duke, Florida State, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio, Radford, Texas A&M and Wichita State.
Virginia Tech opens the season at the Bluegrass Battle in Lexington, Ky. on Aug. 29 against Butler. The Hokies will remain in Lexington to face Wichita State and host-team Kentucky on the 30th.
The Hokies will remain on the road the following two weekends, beginning with a tournament, Sept. 5-6 in Athens, Ohio where Tech will face VCU, Texas A&M and Ohio. On Sept. 11-13, the Hokies will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for the Blue Raider Bash and will play host-team MTSU on the opening day. Tech will follow that up with matches against Belmont, Washington State and Illinois.
Virginia Tech will open the home slate on Sept. 19 against UNC Wilmington as part of the Hokie Invitational. On Sept. 20, the Hokies will face Radford and Marshall.
Tech will open the ACC schedule with a road match at Wake Forest on Sept. 26 before returning home to face league newcomer Louisville on Oct. 3 and NC State on Oct. 4.
The remaining ACC home games for the Hokies include Virginia (Oct. 12), Notre Dame (Oct. 24), Clemson (Oct. 25), Pittsburgh (Oct. 31), Duke (Nov. 2), Wake Forest (Nov. 21) and Georgia Tech (Nov. 22).
On the road in the league, Tech will square off against Clemson (Oct. 10), Miami (Oct. 17), Florida State (Oct. 19), North Carolina (Nov. 9), Virginia (Nov. 14), Pittsburgh (Nov. 16) and Syracuse (Nov. 26), before wrapping up the regular season at Boston College on Nov. 28.
