GREENSBORO, N.C. – Juniors Kathryn Caine and Jordan Fish along with freshman Lindsey Owens were named to the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team as announced on Thursday by Commissioner John Swofford.

Caine continues to add to her accolades this season. In addition to her academic success, working toward dual degrees with a BS in Marketing and a BA in International Studies, Caine was named to the 2013 All-ACC Third Team, grabbed AVCA All-East Coast Regional honors and was named to the AVCA Honorable Mention All-America team after recording 2.47 kps for the Hokies this season while hitting .339 on the attack to place fifth in the ACC. She hit double-digit kills in 13 matches and had a career-high 17 kills at Virginia. The McLean, Va. native was second on the team in blocks with 78 this season. Caine had a standout season, picking up All-ACC, All-Region and All-America recognition for the first time in her career.

Fish, a human development major, moved in to fifth place in the Virginia Tech single-season record book after recording 1,381 assists on the season. In addition, Fish finished the season third in the ACC and 36th in the NCAA in assists per set and recorded over 50 assists eight times during the season. The North Branch, Mich. native topped the 2,500 career assist mark this season and has tallied 2,750 in her three seasons with the Hokies.

Owens, a general bioscience major, had a standout freshman campaign and entered in to the Tech record book in several categories. The outside hitter led the team in kills per set with 2.85 and is fifth in the freshman annals in both kills (311) and kps. Owens led the league and was 27th in the NCAA in aces, tallying 44 this season to finish third on the Tech freshman list. In addition, Owens was strong on the defensive side and finished second on the team in digs, recording 282 to move in to fifth in the Hokies’ record book. The Orlando, Fla. native also tallied 24 block solos and 56 total blocks.

Each of the ACC’s 15 schools is represented on this year’s All-ACC Academic Team, led by Duke with six honorees. Florida State has four student-athletes recognized, while Pitt and Virginia Tech both have three representatives. Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Syracuse all have two members. Closing out the team are Boston College, Clemson, NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest with one student-athlete apiece.

In addition to Caine, All-ACC Academic team members who also earned All-ACC honors this past season include Duke’s Ali McCurdy, Emily Sklar, Jeme Obeime, Chelsea Cook and Maggie Deichmeister, Florida State’s Nicole Walch and Katie Mosher, Maryland’s Ashleigh Crutcher, Miami’s Savanah Leaf and Emani Sims and North Carolina’s Paige Neuenfeld.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
