RALEIGH, N.C. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team handed NC State its first home ACC loss of the season on Saturday evening, sweeping the Wolpack 3-0 (25-23, 25-25, 25-16) in a road match at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh, N.C.

Victoria Hamsher knocked down nine kills, hitting .474 on the attack for the Hokies (21-9, 9-7 ACC). Lindsey Owens added eight kills and Samantha Gostling tallied six. Jordan Fish put up 24 assists for the offense.

On the defensive side, Kenedy McGrath had 17 digs while Owens recorded 14 for her seventh double-double of the season. Owens also had three blocks along with Gostling and LaTasha Samson-Akpan.

The last time the Hokies won 21 matches in a season was in 1998 when Tech finished the year 21-9 en route to a third-place finish in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

In the opening set, the Wolfpack took an early lead, going up 10-7. Virginia Tech answered with a 5-1 run, going on top 12-11 off a kill from Hamsher. NC State reclaimed the lead a few rallies later, holding the 15-12 advantage. The Wolfpack held on to a three-point advantage and led by as many at 18-15 before Tech chipped away at the lead, tying it up at 22-22. The Hokies went up 23-22 off a kill from Gostling, and back-to-back blocks secured the final two points for the Hokies to win 25-23.

Virginia Tech and NC State kept it close in the second frame and were tied at 11-11, but the Hokies used a 5-0 run midway through to go up 16-11 off another Hamsher kill. NC State went on a run, closing to within one at 19-18, but the Hokies held on and extended their lead back to four at 24-20. An ace from McGrath scored the final point for Tech to win 25-20 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Hokies led throughout the final set, but the Wolfpack hung around and trailed by one,13-12, at the midway point. Tech went on a 4-0 run, pulling ahead 17-12 off a block from Hamsher and Owens. NC State scored on the next rally, but Tech responded, outscoring the Pack 4-0 over the next rallies to go up 21-14. Tech closed out the set with a 4-2 run to secure the 25-16 win, taking the match 3-0.

Nikki Glass and Dariyan Hopper recorded 10 kills each. Alston Kearns had 13 digs and Alesha Wilson had a pair of blocks for the defense.

The Hokies will remain on the road, traveling to Notre Dame on Wednesday, Nov. 20 for a 7 p.m. match in South Bend, Ind.
