BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team, coming off a pair of weekend wins, will travel to #15 North Carolina on Friday, Nov. 15 for a 7 p.m. match at Carmichael Arena. Tech will remain in the Triangle to face NC State at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Reynolds Coliseum.

The Hokies
▪ Virginia Tech defeated Miami and #19 Florida State with scores of 3-1 in both matches last weekend.
▪ The win over FSU marked the first time the Hokies have defeated a ranked team since the 2010 season when Tech downed FSU, then-ranked 25th, 3-2 in Blacksburg. It is also the first time since 2004 that the Hokies have defeated both Miami and FSU in the same weekend.
▪ Victoria Hamsher tallied 19 kills, hitting .484, against the Seminoles while Samantha Gostling added 16 kills. Lindsey Owens led four Hokies in double-digits with 15 kills versus the Hurricanes. Hamsher posted 13, LaTasha Samson-Akpan had 11 and Gostling chipped in 10.
▪ Jordan Fish put up 52 assists in each match to top the 2,500 assist milestone for her career at Tech. Fish enters the weekend with 2,527 assists.
▪ Owens is averaging 2.93 kps while Gostling is posting 2.79 kps to lead Virginia Tech on the season. Hamsher (2.58), Kathryn Caine (2.54) and Kennedy Bryan (2.25) are also averaging more than two kills per set. Hamsher is tops in the ACC and ranks 22nd in the NCAA with a hitting percentage of .409. Fish is putting up 11.24 assists for the offense to rank second in the ACC and 23rd in the nation.
▪ Owens has been strong for the Hokies on the serve, averaging 0.45 aces per set to top the ACC and rank 16th in the NCAA standings.
▪ On the defensive side, Samson-Akpan is tallying 1.11 blocks per set. Megan Beckwith is averaging 4.14 digs per set, good for eighth in the league.
▪ The Hokies sit second in the ACC and are 28th in the NCAA in team attack percentage at .262.

Scouting the Tar Heels
▪ UNC picked up a pair of wins at home last weekend, defeating Clemson, 3-1 and Georgia Tech, 3-0.
▪ Jovan Bjelica had 13 kills while Paige Neunenfeldt and Leigh Andrew had 11 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead UNC past Georgia Tech. Bjelica also led the Heels against the Tigers with 14 kills and Victoria McPherson added 12.
▪ Bjelica leads the Heels on the season with 3.29 kills per set. Four other players are adding over two kills per set with Andrew tallying 2.27 and Kayla Berringer with 2.24 kps. Jordyn Schnable and Abigail Curry split time at setter, tallying 6.60 and 5.21 aps, respectively.
▪ On the defensive side, Neuenfeldt and McPherson are posting 1.08 blocks each. Ece Taner is recording 4.01 digs per set.

The Series
▪ UNC holds the lead in the all-time series at 20-5 and won earlier this season, 3-2 in Blacksburg.
▪ Caine led the Hokies with 15 kills while Owens added 14 and Hamsher had 11. The Tar Heels were led by Bjelica with 17 kills. Andrew added 12 and Berringer and Lauren Adkins had 11 each.

Scouting the Wolfpack
▪ NC State took wins in both matches last weekend with a 3-0 win over Clemson and a 3-2 decision against Georgia Tech in Raleigh, N.C.
▪ Alesha Wilson led the Pack against the Yellow Jackets, recording 11 kills with Meredith Richardson adding 10. Dariyan Hopper recorded 15 versus the Tigers to lead the team with Rachel Buckley who chipped in 14 and Nikki Glass had 11.
▪ Hopper leads the Pack with 3.41 kps, Richardson is posting 2.40 and Wilson is tallying 2.39 kps on the season. Tanna Aljoe is putting up 9.91 assists per set.
▪ Defensively, Brie Merriwether is tallying 1.20 blocks per set and Wilson is notching 1.03 bps. Alston Kearns is picking up 4.38 digs per set to rank fourth in the ACC.

The Series
▪ The Hokies lead the all-time series 18-10 and secured a 3-0 win earlier this season in Blacksburg.
▪ Hamsher knocked down 10 kills for the Hokies and Caine added nine. Richardson tallied 10 for the Wolfpack.

Up Next: The Hokies stay on the road, traveling to Notre Dame for a midweek match in South Bend on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
