GREENSBORO, N.C. – After leading the Virginia Tech volleyball team to its first victory over a ranked team since 2010, senior middle blocker Victoria Hamsher was named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week. In addition to Hamsher, Virginia freshman outside hitter Jasmine Burton also received honors, as she was tabbed Freshman of the Week.

Hamsher helped lead the Hokies to a 2-0 record over the weekend, as Virginia Tech knocked off Miami, 3-1 and No. 18 Florida State, 3-1. Hamsher posted 13 kills against the Hurricanes and followed that up with a match-high 19 kills against the Seminoles to set a new career mark. On the weekend, Hamsher hit .436 on the attack. The win over the Seminoles marked the first win for the Hokies over a ranked team since Oct. 29, 2010, when they defeated Florida State, 3-2.

Burton earned her second Freshman of the Week honor after she led the Cavaliers with a .282 hitting percentage and was second on the team with 4.25 kills per set, including a match-high 22 kills against the Hurricanes in a four-set win. The freshman from White Hills, Calif., recorded a block to clinch the third set for Virginia at 30-28 and gave the Cavaliers the momentum with the first two kills of the fourth set.

Hamsher and the Hokies will be back on the court on Friday, Nov. 15 at No. 15 North Carolina. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
