Owens named ACC Freshman of the Week
Lindsey Owens led the Hokies on offense with 3.14 kills per set over the weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech outside hitter Lindsey Owens was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week as announced on Monday by the league office.

Owens was one of the driving forces behind the Hokies’ undefeated weekend that pushed their ledger to 10-1 overall. The native of Orlando, Fla., was named to the All-Tournament team at the Hokie Classic, as she led Virginia Tech with 3.10 kills per set. Defensively, Owens posted strong numbers on the weekend with 20 digs and seven blocks. In a win against Duquesne, Owens recorded five service aces and scored all three set-winning points with an ace in the first set followed by set-deciding kills in the second and third sets.

With the three wins over the weekend, the Hokies claimed their third tournament title of the non-conference schedule. Tech will wrap-up the non-conference slate this weekend, Sept. 20-21, at the Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky. The Hokies are set to face Rice during the opening day at 3 p.m.
