Tech to host Hokie Classic
Volleyball will host its second tournament of the season

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team is set to host its second tournament of the season when the Hokies welcome Lipscomb, William & Mary and Duquesne to Cassell Coliseum for the Hokie Classic, Sept. 13-14.

Virginia Tech will face Lipscomb on Friday at 7 p.m., following the 4:30 p.m. match between William & Mary and Duquesne. Saturday will be a full day of volleyball beginning with Duquesne and Lipscomb in the 10:30 match. The Hokies will face William & Mary at 12:30 followed by a 5 p.m. match between William & Mary and Lipscomb. Tech will round out the competition on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Duquesne.

Virginia Tech (7-1) is coming off a win at the Middle Tennessee Invitational where the Hokies took the tournament title after going 4-0 on the weekend. Samantha Gostling earned her second MVP honor of the season after leading the Hokies with 3.23 kills per set. Victoria Hamsher and libero Megan Beckwith joined Gostling on the All-Tournament team. Hamsher knocked down 2.92 kps while Beckwith tallied 4.15 digs per set.

Gostling leads the Hokies on the season with 3.48 kps. Lindsey Owens is adding 2.85 while Kathryn Caine is tallying 2.61 kps. Hamsher is posting 2.32 kps. Jordan Fish is putting up 10.74 assists per set and ranks second in the ACC.

On the defensive side for the Hokies, Beckwith is averaging 3.63 digs per set, while LaTasha Samson-Akpan is recording 1.32 blocks per set.

Lipscomb (4-2) defeated South Alabama, 3-0, the last time out. Jewell Dobson is tallying 4.63 kps to lead the Bison while Lauren Ford is adding 4.0 kps. Caitlin Dotson is notching 12.26 aps. Defensively, two players are averaging more than three digs per set with Bri McCombs recording 3.37 and Sophie Kellerman averaging 3.05.

William & Mary (2-5) defeated Kent State, 3-2 in the Tribe’s last match. Liz Brown leads the tribe on the offense with 3.47 kps. Mallory Brickerd and Dessi Kleva are adding 2.92 and 2.82 kps, respectively. Paige Lucas is tallying 9.15 aps. For the defense, Carolyn Albright is recording 1.29 bps while Paulette Grand Pre is putting up 4.74 dps.

Duquesne (4-2) defeated Robert Morris, 3-1, last weekend. Arielle Love is leading the Dukes with 3.68 kps while Allison Foschia is adding 2.59. Mary Henry is logging 10.73 assists per set on the offensive side. On the defense, Taylor Lockett is putting back 1.05 bps and Pattie Abshire is adding 4.14 dps.
