Tech volleyball announces 2013 schedule
Hokies schedule is highlighted by 13 home dates, including two tournaments

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Thirteen home dates, including two tournaments, plus 19 matches in a tough, newly expanded ACC highlight the 2013 Virginia Tech volleyball schedule as announced on Tuesday.

The schedule features matches against ACC newcomers Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse. Tech will also square off against eight teams that made it to the 2012 NCAA Tournament, including Bowling Green, Notre Dame, Florida State, North Carolina, Louisville, Michigan State, Miami and NC State.

Virginia Tech opens the season at home, hosting the Virginia Tech Invitational with Michigan State, Pacific, St. Francis and Towson coming to Cassell Coliseum for the two day, Aug. 30-31 event. Tech will follow that up with a road tournament, Sept. 6-7, at Middle Tennessee, facing Austin Peay and North Dakota in addition to the host team.

The Hokies will return to Cassell for their second home tournament of the season, the Virginia Tech Classic, Sept. 13-14. Joining Tech in the event are Lipscomb, Duquesne and William & Mary. Virginia Tech will wrap up their tournament schedule at the Louisville Classic, Sept. 20-21. In addition to the Cardinals, the Hokies are slated to match up against Bowling Green and Rice.

Virginia Tech will open the ACC schedule with four consecutive road matches beginning on Sept. 27 at Wake Forest. Tech will remain in North Carolina to face Duke on Sept. 28. The Hokies will travel to Pitt (Oct. 4) and Maryland (Oct. 6) the following weekend.

The Hokies will return to Cassell for the ACC home opener on Oct. 11 when Boston College makes the trip to Blacksburg. The match is the start of a five game home stand that also includes Syracuse (Oct. 12), NC State (Oct. 18), North Carolina (Oct. 19) and Virginia (Oct. 25).

Tech will return to the road for six of its next eight matches including trips to Clemson, Georgia Tech, UNC, NC State, Notre Dame and UVA. The Hokies will break up the road swing with home matches against Miami on Nov. 8 and Florida State on Nov. 9.

Virginia Tech will conclude the 2013 regular season hosting Maryland on Nov. 29 and Pitt on Nov. 30.
