Baarendse earns AVCA All-East Region recognition

Senior is recognized by the AVCA for third straight year

BLACKSBURG, Va. – For the third consecutive season, senior Cara Baarendse has earned American Volleyball Coaches Association All-East Region recognition, earning 2012 honorable mention honors for her performance this season. She has already been named to this year’s All-ACC squad. Seventeen of the 20 honorees of the All-East region team are from the ACC.

Baarendse, a native of Mason, Ohio, finishes her career at Virginia Tech as the all-time hitting percentage leader with a 4-year tally of .342. She reached the 1,000 career kill mark this season and posted 1,236 during her career to place her ninth in Tech’s history book. This season she recorded 244 kills while hitting .350 on the attack. Baarendse had 10 matches recording double-digit kills and had a double-double against Georgia Tech with 14 kills and 10 digs.

On the defensive side, Baarendse was third on the team in digs with 1.51 per set and posted 83 blocks on the season to rank second for the Hokies.
