Leading the Hokies (1-1) was senior Jennifer Wiker with 18 kills while juniors Samantha Gostling and Victoria Hamsher added nine kills each. Sophomore Jordan Fish talled 47 assists. Senior Morgan O’Neill and freshman Kenedy McGrath had 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

Mizzou (2-0) was led by a trio of attackers in double digits with Lisa Henning leading the way with 16. Whitney Little added 14 and Taylor Simpson had 12. Molly Kreklow notched 44 assists and Jade Hayes racked up 17 digs.

In the opening set the two teams kept it close early and were tied at 14 before the Tigers went on top 18-15. The Hokies closed the gap to one at 22-21 off a kill from Wiker. An ace from Cara Baarendse on the next serve tied the set at 22, but the Tigers scored three straight points to secure the first set, 25-22.

The second set started started much like the first as the two teams were tied just past the midway point at 16 before back-to-back kills from Wiker and Gostling put the Hokies up 18-16. Tech took its largest lead at 23-20 off the block by Wiker and Baarendse. Kills from Wiker and Baarendse secured the points needed for the Hokies to take the second set, 25-22, tying the match at 1-1.

To start the third frame the two teams traded points early before the Tigers opened the scoring, taking the 17-10 lead. Tech looked to make a late run, but was only able to pull within five (24-19) as Mizzou claimed the set 25-19 and a 2-1 lead in the match.

In the final set, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead, going up 13-7. The Hokies closed the gap to three (13-10) off a Tiger attack error. Missouri again extended its lead, up 21-14. Tech was unable to overcome the Tigers as Mizzou clinched the match with a 25-16 win.

Tech hit for .320 with 56 kills on the match while the Tigers tallied 58 kills with a percentage of .349.

The Hokies will be back in action on Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. ET match against #23 Michigan at the Tiger Volleyball Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
