Hokies round out incoming freshman class
McGrath, Arnson join Tech volleyball squad

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team has rounded out the class of 2016 as it welcomes Kenedy McGrath and Sydnee Arnson to Hokie Nation. The pair will join the three other players, Jenna Jendryk, Kennedy Bryan and Alexa Swann, who signed National Letters of Intent earlier this year.

McGrath, a libero, joins the Hokies after winning three letters at Palos Verdes High School. A two-year team captain and team MVP honoree, McGrath earned All-Area First Team honors as a senior, while also being named the All-Bay League’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player. The Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., native was named a Defensive and Gym Dandy by prepvolleyball.com in her final season. Also competing in sand volleyball, at both the AAU and high school level, McGrath played club ball for Surf City. She helped her team to a sixth-place SCVA Region finish in 2011 and a second-place finish in 2010.

Arnson hails from Gilbert, Ariz., and comes to Tech after spending two years as the setter for Basha High School. After being named the team’s Most Improved Player as a junior, Arnson was granted team captain duties as a senior. Arnson also captained her Arizona Storm club team and helped the squad to two national bids.

The five newcomers will make their collegiate debuts this fall, when the Hokies open the season Friday, August 24 in a tournament at Missouri.
