GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Cara Baarendse and redshirt junior Jennifer Wiker were both named to the 2012 Volleyball All-ACC Academic team, as announced by conference commissioner John Swofford Wednesday morning. This is the second time both players have earned the honor. Miami’s Lane Carico was named the Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, heading the 33-member squad.

Baarendse finished her junior season with 327 kills, 225 digs and 84 blocks, starting 30 of the team’s 31 matches. The Mason, Ohio native tallied a team-best 20 double-digit kills matched, while also add six double-doubles. Baarendse’s impressive numbers and notorious consistency earned her numerous post-season honor as she garnered AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and All-East Region accolades for the second straight season. The human development major and aspiring teacher strung together an eight-match double-digit kills streak and finished out her third season with 36 kills, 27 digs and 11 blocks in the final three matches.

Wiker, a redshirt junior from Charlotte, N.C., made 21 starts but appeared in all 31 matches, as well as 117 sets. She threw down 320 kills and got up for 84 blocks in her third season, and finished the year with 15-plus kills in six of the last seven matches. Wiker has already earned a degree in finance and is currently working towards her MBA at Tech.
