BLACKSBURG, Va. – Junior Cara Baarendse has tacked on another post-season accolade as she was honored by the Virginia Association of Sports Information Directors Monday afternoon. Baarendse was named to the VaSID All-State First Team for the second consecutive season.
A total of 12 players from six schools were named to the all-state teams, which were selected by a vote of sports information professionals from around the state of Virginia.
The honor comes less than a week after the Mason, Ohio native received an AVCA All-America honorable mention nod for the second straight season. Baarnedse finished her third season at Tech with 327 kills and 225 digs, averaging 2.70 and 1.86 per set, respectively. She was second on the team with a .295 hitting percentage, while adding 84 blocks on the defensive end. Baarendse strung together an eight-match streak where she threw down double-digit kills in each outing. Ten of her team-best 20 double-digit kills matches also came in the final 11 matches of the season. She also added six double-doubles in her third season.
