Junior honored by AVCA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its 2011 All-America teams on Wednesday afternoon, and junior Cara Baarendse earned Honorable Mention accolades for the second straight season. Fifteen athletes from the Atlantic Coast Conference garnered All-America honors this year, including two second-team members.

Baarendse recently added to her All-ACC accolades when she was named to the AVCA All-East Region squad. This is the second straight season that the Mason, Ohio, native has earned each of the three honors.

Baarendse finished her junior season with 327 kills and 225 digs, averaging 2.70 and 1.86 per set, respectively. The middle blocker was second on the team with a .295 hitting percentage, while adding 84 blocks on the defensive end. Baarendse strung together an eight-match streak where she threw down double-digit kills in each outing. Ten of her team-best 20 double-digit kills matches also came in the final 11 matches of the season. She also added six double-doubles in her third season.
