BLACKSBURG, Va. – For the second straight season, junior Cara Baarendse has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-East Region team. She is the only Hokie to be honored this season and has already been named to this year’s All-ACC squad. This year’s 14-member team is made of solely of ACC-member teams as 10 of the 12 teams are represented.
Baarendse, a native of Mason, Ohio, finished the 2011 season with 327 kills and 225 digs, averaging 2.70 and 1.86 per set, respectively. The middle blocker was second on the team with a .295 hitting percentage, while adding 84 blocks on the defensive end. Baarendse strung together an eight-match streak where she threw down double-digit kills in each outing. Ten of her team-best 20 double-digit kills matches also came in the final 11 matches of the season. She also added six double-doubles in her third season.
