Volleyball signs three to NLIs
Tech welcomes three newcomers

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team and head coach Chris Riley announce the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent this week. Jenna Jendryk, Kennedy Bryan and Alexa Swann will join the Hokies for their freshman season in 2012.

“We are very excited to welcome three wonderful young women to our family,” Riley said of his newcomers. “Jenna Jendryk is a tremendous athlete who brings us some versatility as a right side attacker and also has the ability to set. She is a great blocker who will help our program. Kennedy Bryan will be a very dynamic outside hitter for the Hokies. She will play six rotations and bring the ability to hit front and back row. Alexa Swann will make an immediate impact at middle blocker. She is a tall, physical player with the speed to be a successful attacker and blocker in the ACC.”

Jendryk hails from Wheaton, Ill., and spent three years as a starter at Benet Academy. Jendryk helped a Benet team that was ranked 12th in the country by prepvolleyball.com and eighth by ESPN to a state championship her senior year. The right side player was named an Under Armour All-American as well as the team’s offensive player of the year after her final season. As a member of the Sports Performance club team, Jendryk was an AAU All-American for the 18-Club division and helped her team to an AAU 18-Club national championship in 2011.

Bryan comes to Tech from Alpharetta, Ga., after three starting seasons at Chattahoochee High School. The outside hitter earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention accolades as a senior, also being named to the All-State and All-Area teams two and three times, respectively. Touted as a Prep Volleyball All-American as a junior, Bryan was a finalist for both the Junior of the Year award and Gatorade Player of the Year. Bryan also spent six years with the A5 club team with which she helped to a second-place finish at the 17-open at Junior Olympics as well as three national qualifier medals.

Swann joins the Hokies from Mertztown, Pa. She was a four-year starter and senior captain at Brandywine Area High School, helping her team to two state championship games. The middle blocker was a finalist for the Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year Award in 2011, while also being named to the Prep Volleyball Senior Aces Top 250 list. Taking the state title in 2011, Swann was named the PVCA AA State Championship MVP. Swann also played three years of club ball for the Synergy Volleyball Club that ranked fourth according to the Prep Volleyball 18’s national rankings in 2011 and third in the 17’s national rankings in 2010.
