Virginia Tech Athletics to hold Breast Cancer Awareness Week events
Several teams to hold special promotions and giveaways

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech Athletics Department will be holding several Breast Cancer Awareness events during Homecoming week in Blacksburg. October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness month and the Hokies have planned “pink” promotions at several home athletics events between October 15 and October 23 to support the cause.

On Saturday, October 15 the Tech swimming and diving teams will host JMU and NC State at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center beginning at 1pm. The first 100 fans will receive pink HOKIES t-shirts. The teams will also be wearing pink swim caps and t-shirts. Admission is free.

On Friday, October 21, the men’s soccer team will host in-state rival Virginia at 7pm for “Kick it To Cancer” Night at Thompson Field. The first 400 fans will receive VT knit hats. The Tech volleyball team is also in action versus Georgia Tech at 7pm in Cassell Coliseum where the first 300 fans will receive pink HOKIES t-shirts and admission is free to both matches.

On Saturday, October 22, the football team will hold their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day in Lane Stadium for the Homecoming game versus Boston College at 3pm. Fans can show their support by purchasing special pink bracelets for $1 each at any University Bookstore location. Individuals or groups wishing to purchase a minimum of 100 wristbands can do so by emailing the Virginia Tech Football office at lepperly@vt.edu. Checks are to be made out to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. All proceeds will be donated to breast cancer research.

The week of events concludes on Sunday, October 23 as the women’s soccer team hosts the nationally-ranked North Carolina Tarheels at Thompson Field at 1pm. The first 200 fans will receive pink HOKIES t-shirts. Admission is free to attend.

Come out and show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness and any of these Tech athletic events this season.
