BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech head volleyball coach Chris Riley has named Jen Malcom as his new assistant coach, effective immediately. Malcom comes to Tech after a decorated college career along with coaching experience at the club level and as a Division I graduate assistant.

"We are excited to have Jen working with us,” said Riley. “She brings a great playing background as a middle blocker and has worked with and played for great coaches in Justin Ingram and Christy Johnson-Lynch, so we can't wait to see what she can bring to our group."

Malcom began her college career at Syracuse, playing two seasons for the Big Orange. She then transferred to Iowa State, where she played her final two seasons, following a redshirt year in 2006. The Cyclones made the NCAA Tournament during both of her seasons with them, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2007 and the Elite Eight in 2008. Following her senior season at ISU, Malcom was named a Strength and Conditioning All-American, an AVCA All-Central Region selection, and an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. She graduated as the Cyclones’ all-time record-holder in hitting percentage in all three categories, career (.318), season (.343) and single-match (.789), and her .343 hitting percentage ranked fourth in the Big 12 and 61^st nationally in 2008. She graduated from Iowa State in December 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiolgy.

Malcom has some coaching experience at the club level with IPVA in Des Moines, Iowa. She also spent the 2010 season as a graduate assistant coach at Arkansas State. While there, she earned her Master’s degree in Sports Administration.

“I am excited to be here,” said Malcom. “I’m looking forward to the season and what the team has to bring, and I’m excited to be a Hokie!”
