GREENSBORO, N.C. – Volleyball sophomores Cara Baarendse and Jennifer Wiker were honored this morning by the Atlantic Coast Conference as members of the All-Academic team for outstanding performances both on and off the court this season. Baarendse, who was also named All-ACC this year, picks up her second All-Academic selection, while redshirt sophomore Wiker earns the honor for the first time.

Baarendse, a human development major, had an incredible sophomore campaign, leading the team wih 385 kills and a .376 hitting percentage, while adding 121 digs, 48 assists, 41 blocks and 14 service aces. She finished second in the ACC and 24^th in the nation in hitting percentage, which was also the second best all-time clip at Virginia Tech. Baarendse, who led the team with 21 double-digit kills matches, was named honorable mention All-American, AVCA All-East Region, first-team All-ACC and VaSID first-team All-State. Additionally, she was named the MVP of the Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational and the Western Kentucky Tournament, as well as being placed on the CVU.com national Top Performers List on Sept. 7.

Wiker, who is studying finance, had an excellent second full season with the Hokies. She played in all 32 matches, notching 259 kills, 72 blocks and 48 digs. She was second on the team with 20 block solos, and earned double-digit kills 10 times and 20-or-more twice. Additionally, she was named to the all-tournament team of the Marriott Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville.
