CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – After a rough start to October, the Hokies finally hit their stride, snapping a five-match losing streak with a decisive 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-17) sweep of the Boston College Eagles. The shutout victory was the third for the Hokies in their last four meetings. The win lifts Tech to 11-6 (2-5 ACC), while Boston College sinks to 8-12 (0-7 ACC).

The Hokies got off to a great start, opening the first set with a 7-2 lead and hanging onto it for the remainder of the set, quickly taking the first frame, 25-17.

The Eagles bounced back in the second set, opening with a 6-2 lead, but the Hokies rallied to tie the score at 12, then took their first lead of the set by winning three straight points. Tech soon pushed out in front 21-17, and won the second set, 25-21.

Tech jumped out to a decisive, 15-5 lead in the third frame. The Eagles refused to go quietly, fighting their way up to 17 points, but the Hokies did not relent, winning their fourth straight match over Boston College, 3-0.

Senior Felicia Willoughby stuffed three block assists in the match, which elevated her career numbers to 495 total blocks, surpassing Jennifer Schmidt's record of 494 set all the way back in 1995. Willoughby is currently 31 blocks ahed of second place in career block assists, with 405, a record she set at the Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational earlier this season. Her 90 block solos place her fifth all-time in that category, and she is 10th in career kills, with 1,130. If she continues her consistency in the front row, she may also retire in first place all-time in hitting percetage, as her current .328 clip is four points above Katie Esbrook's program-leading .324 mark.

Justine Record led the Hokies with 11 kills, adding eight digs, an assist, and a block. Erin Leaser recorded a double-double with 29 kills and 10 digs, adding four kills, four block assists and a team-leading .375 hitting percentage. Victoria Hamsher led the match with seven block assists, adding four kills and two digs, while fellow-rookie Samantha Gostling notched seven kills. Laura Misiewicz registered her first career kill and pitched in five digs from the back row, and Jennifer Wiker added six kills and three block assists.

As a team, the Hokies held the Eagles to just a .063 hitting percentage, out-killing them 42-27 and out-blocking them 11-7.

The Hokies return home on Thursday, Oct. 14, to host the Blue Devils of Duke University, who were ranked 13^th in the nation in this past week’s RPI. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
