Cara Baarendse named to CVU.com's National Top Performers list
Baarendse was one of 11 players in the nation to garner this weekly honor

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore middle blocker Cara Baarendse was named to CVU.com’s national Top Performers of the Week list after an outstanding performance at the Hilton Garden Hokie Invitational this past weekend. The list consists of CVU.com’s National Player of the Week, Miami setter Katie Gallagher, who also won ACC Player of the Week, and 10 additional players who were finalists for the weekly honor or had exceptional individual matches.

Baarendse helped lead the Hokies to a perfect 3-0 weekend, with 3-0 sweeps of Coastal Carolina, Long Island and Jacksonville State, and Tech’s sixth consecutive home tournament sweep. The Hokies are now 18-0 in home tournaments under Head Coach Chris Riley. The sophomore from Mason, Ohio, led the team with 31 kills and a .491 hitting percentage, and currently leads the Hokies in both categories for the season, with 60 kills and a .431 hitting percentage. Her solid performance at the tournament also earned her all-tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Additionally, Baarendse elevated her career hitting percentage to .367, which, though it is far from final with close to three full seasons left to play, is well above the Hokies’ all-time record of .324 set in 2006 by Katie Esbrook.
