Hokies start practice for 2013 and kick-off the season long blog
Volleyball: Behind The Scenes

Hi Hokie fans!

We’re back and ready for another season! After a relaxing summer, we are all ready to go to work in the gym. Most of our team has been here since July 5th (Summer Session II), and we were doing open gyms three times a week, with lifting and conditioning four times a week. This was for us to get back into the swing of things before preseason started, and for the new freshman to become better acclimated with our program.

We officially started our preseason practices on August 10th, with a few activities in between. Our normal daily schedule is two practices a day, either at 9am and 2pm or 2pm and 6pm, along with lifting at 6:30am or 7:45am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We practice every day except Sundays, but even then we find ourselves in Cassell. Our nutritionist Jenny has been supplying all of our preseason lunches, as well as half of our dinners. Our coaches supply the other half. Some of the restaurants we get food from are: Bull and Bones, Green’s, Macado’s, Chipotle, Our Daily Bread, Jimmy Johns, Panera, Mikie 7th, and the Hilton Garden Inn. Most of them are catered to our brand new Oasis (new nutrition facility), where we eat as a team between our practices.

We had our team pictures about a week ago and you can check out our new headshots on our individual hokiesports pages! Along with that, we filmed our intro video that they play on the Jumbotron before our games. We were all filmed individually and then as a team. Some people were really creative with their individual shots so we can’t wait to see what it looks like finished! Every preseason we have a team dinner at Kabuki, which is a Japanese steakhouse in Christiansburg. Instead of having two practices Saturday, our coaches gave us our night session off and we all went to Kabuki for some fun! Then Sunday, even though we had off, most of us came in to do rehab and cold tub. We then had a team lunch supplied by Jenny, and dinner at the Hilton Garden Inn.

School starts next Monday, so we have one more week of preseason before we get into our season practices. Our first tournament is HOME on Friday, August 30th and Saturday, August 31st! So come out and cheer us on as we start what is going to be a great season for VTVB!

Go Hokies!
