BLACKSBURG – Fifteen Power Five schools and Virginia Tech’s track and field team will compete in the inaugural National Relay Championships on the campus of Arkansas for a two-day meet.

The meet kicks off on Friday at 9 a.m. ET with the hammer throw and will conclude on Saturday with the 4x400-meter relay around 8:45 p.m. Five Big 12 schools, four SEC, three Big Ten and ACC and one Pac-12 member will be lining it up at John McDonnell Field.

The SEC Network will live stream the event on Saturday and there will be a replay of it on Sunday, too. SEC Network + will broadcast the event on Friday.

All five of Tech’s disciplines will make the trek to Fayetteville, Arkansas, marking the second time this season the Hokies have gone to the home of the Razorbacks. Tech went to the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 9-10.

The Hokies are No. 21 on the women’s side in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25 rankings, announced on Monday. Tech is one of three schools from the ACC to be ranked on the women’s side, and all three – No. 15 Miami, No. 20 Florida State and No. 21 Virginia Tech – will be in Fayetteville this weekend.

Last weekend, Tech put together five first-place finishes with being at four different meets in the states of Alabama, California and North Carolina. Distance runners Sarah Edwards (3,000-meter steeplechase), Sara Freix (5,000) and Rachel Pocratsky (800), pole vaulter Deakin Volz and discus thrower Lindsay Herra all took first in their respected events.

Tech’s record book took a dent as eight times and marks from the past weekend were good enough to be in the top-10 all-time section.

Among ACC student-athletes, 29 times and marks from Tech rank inside the top 10 of the league. Nationally, the Hokies own 12 times and marks that sit inside the top 25.
