BLACKSBURG – With the ACC Outdoor Championships three weeks out, the Virginia Tech track and field teams will split up for four meets, starting on Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays and going through Saturday.

Tech’s other three meets include the Duke Invitational, War Eagle Classic and Beach Invitational. All three invites are two-day meets beginning on Friday.

Mt. SAC Relays will be streamed, available for users who have a USATF+. You can subscribe to the membership, which costs money, here.

Tech will be sending all of its five disciplines to meets for the second straight weekend. The sprints/hurdles and jumps/multi-events groups will head to Auburn’s campus, the distance and pole vault squads will go to Duke’s campus and the throws will head to Long Beach State’s campus, as well as Mt. San Antonio College’s campus.

The Hokies are No. 12 on the men’s side and No. 19 on the women’s side in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25 rankings, announced on Monday.

The men moved up one spot while the women moved down one spot compared to last week’s poll, announced on April 9. Tech owns the highest-rated team on both sides out of the ACC for the third consecutive week.

The pole vault group swept both sides, as Rachel Baxter and Deakin Volz took first place, Greg Chiles won the 400-meter hurdles and Rachel Pocratsky placed first in the 1,500 meters.

The distance medley relays also shined, with the women consisting of Katie Kennedy, Laurie Barton, Sarah Edwards and Rachel Pocratsky turning in a school-record time (11:22.93) to place second and the men made up of Peter Seufer, Jared Bane, Diego Zarate, Vincent Ciattei placed first.

Baxter was named ACC Women’s Field Performer of the Week by the league office on Tuesday. The California native posted the third-best mark in school history at the Tennessee Relays last weekend, clearing a height 4.30 meters (14 feet, 1.25 inches) in the pole vault to place first.

Among ACC student-athletes, 29 times and marks from Tech rank inside the top 10 of the league. Tech also boasts five athletes who own the No. 1 mark in the conference, including Stefanie Aeschlimann in the triple jump, Marek Barta in the discus, Pocratsky in the 1,500, Lisa Gunnarsson in the pole vault and Emma Thor in the hammer throw.
