BLACKSBURG, Va. - After yet another record setting weekend, the Virginia Tech track & field team returns to Rector Fieldhouse to host the Virginia Tech Challenge, the final meet of the indoor season. Events begin Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Hokies will compete against three Atlantic Coast Conference schools: Clemson, Duke, and North Carolina. An additional twelve schools from the region will join the field in Rector Fieldhouse.
Last weekend, both Thomas Curtin and Shannon Morton set new Virginia Tech program records on Friday and Saturday at the Iowa State Classic.
ACC Co-Track Performer of the Week, Curtin won the 5,000-meter run in 13:37.10 to set a new facility and meet records. Additionally, Neil Gourley ran another sub-four minute mile for the second time in eight days.
On the women’s side, Morton cut nearly five seconds off her time to run the mile in 4:38.39. Hanna Green won the 800 meters in 2:04.87.
Nora McKiver led Tech’s sprinters with a third place finish out of 49 sprinters in the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 24.14. Additionally, McKiver and Shanel Burr recorded best times to qualify for the final of the 60-meter hurdles.
Darius Watkins represented the Hokies sprinters on the men’s side to qualify for the finals of the 60-meter dash.
The track & field team will wrap up the indoor season be for NCAA Championships at the ACC Championships in Boston next weekend.
