Hokies track & field set to compete at two meets
The Tech squad will split to compete at the Iowa State Classic and Samford Invite

Live results: Iowa State (distance) // Samford (sprints/jumps)

BLACKSBURG, Va. - After another record-setting weekend, the Virginia Tech track & field team travels to the Iowa State Classic and Samford Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Tech’s distance squad will compete on both Friday and Saturday in Ames, Iowa while the sprinters and jumpers compete on Friday in Birmingham, Alabama.

Thomas Curtin, Neil Gourley, and Hanna Green each secured first place finishes last weekend to lead the Hokies distance runners. Curtin won the 3,000-meters, Gourley the mile, and Green the 800. Gourley’s 3:59.58 mile time made him the second Tech runner in program history to record a sub-four minute time. Five additional Hokies earned top-10 finishes in the men’s distance events while the women added three.

The Hokies sprinters have continued to improve through the first four weeks of the season. Nora McKiver and Shanel Burr led the women’s sprinters at the Virginia Tech “Doc Hale” Elite Meet last weekend, each recording personal best times.

For the jumpers, David Prince secured a third-place finish in the long jump last weekend with Emily Miller competing in the pentathlon.

The Hokies will return to Blacksburg next weekend to host the Virginia Tech Challenge on Friday and Saturday.
