Tech travels to three meets this weekend
Hokies sending athletes to Tennessee, Stanford and Appalachian State

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech track & field team will head in three different directions this weekend as some distance runners travel to California for the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford University, another group of distance runners heads to the Appalachian State Invite and the sprinters, jumpers, pole vaulters and throwers travel to Tennessee for the Tennessee Challenge.

The Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford University will feature some of the Hokies’ best up against several of the nation’s best collegiate and non-collegiate runners. Patrick Joseph will be featured in the 1500-meter race. Thomas Curtin will participate in the 5000-meter race. On the women’s side, Hanna Green will be featured in the 800-meter race, Amanda Smith and Shannon Morton will participate in the 1500-meter race while Sarah Rapp and Paige Kvartunas will take on the 5000-meter distance.

The Tennessee Challenge hosted by the University of Tennessee will showcase Tech athletes in a host of events. The men’s and women’s sprinters will be competing. The men’s and women’s pole vaulters, including Chris Uhle will compete on Saturday as well. Irena Sediva and Sabine Kopplin will represent the women’s throwers in the javelin. Marek Barta, Jaka Muhar and Tomas Kruzliak will represent the men’s throwers in the discus, javelin and hammer throw, respectively.

A host of Hokie distance runners will also be competing at the Appalachian State Invite hosted by Appalachian State University.

Live results will be available at both the Tennessee Challenge and Payton Jordan Invitational but will not be available at the Appalachian State Invite. In addition, the Payton Jordan Invitational will be live streaming ($) the event via FloTrack.
