PORTLAND, Ore. – Shannon Morton reset her own school record in the women’s 1500-meter race to pace the Hokies at the Portland Track Festival on Sunday evening
Morton broke her own Virginia Tech school record in the women’s 1500-meter race running a time of 4:13.29, breaking her school record of 4:15.44 set just two weeks ago at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. She was the top collegiate finisher and placed fifth overall in the event. Her time ranks as the fourth fastest in the NCAA this season.
Hanna Green improved her personal best to 2:04.46 in the women’s 800-meter race, just missing the school record of 2:04.45 set by Amanda Smith at the 2014 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships back in April. Amanda ran 2:05.22 as the duo finished first and third in their section.
Patrick Joseph ran a personal best of 3:43.70 in the men’s 1500 meters to finish as the third best collegian and ninth overall in the event. Joseph's time is the second best for US Juniors (age 19 and under), as he prepares for the USA Junior Championships held in Eugene, Ore. in early July. The meet will serve as the qualifying meet for the World Junior Championships, also held in Eugene, Ore. at the end of July.
Neil Gourley ran a time of 3:50.28 to finish fifth in his section and Vincent Ciattei ran 4:00.31 to finish 11th in his section of the 1500 meters.
