Hokies compete well in final tune-up before NCAA Regionals
Johnson, Wesh qualify for regional in Hokies' first outdoor home meet in over 10 years

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Both Brad Johnson and Darrell Wesh qualified for the NCAA East Regional meet in what was the Hokies’ first home outdoor track & field meet in over 10 years at the Johnson-Miller Track Complex on Sunday evening.

At the Hokie Twilight Meet, Brad Johnson finished in second in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 16’10” (5.13m) propelling him into the top 48 of the NCAA East Region making him an automatic qualifier for the meet. Darrell Wesh used a time of 10.28 seconds and a first-place finish in the men’s 100-meter race to qualify as well.

Shannon Morton posted a first-place finish in the women’s 800-meter race with a time of 2:07.89. Katarina Smiljanec finished in second with a time of 2:10.81.

Amanda Smith won the women’s 1500-meter race with a time of 4:23.84 while Paige Kvartunas won the women’s 5000-meter race with a time of 18:20.33.

Prince Owusu won the men’s 800-meter race 1:50.94 while Martin Dally finished second with a time of 1:51.28. Torben Laidig finished in first place in the men’s pole vault hitting a mark of 17’9.25” (5.42m)

The Hokies will compete next at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 29-31.
