H2Okies see another qualifier on day two of Zone A Diving Championships
Mauro Castro-Silva finished fifth in the three meter final to punch his ticket to nationals

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. - Junior Mauro Castro-Silva joined three other H2Okie divers in qualifying for both the one meter and three meter events after a fifth place finish in the finals of the men’s three meter event on day two of the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
Castro-Silva joins brother Eduardo Castro-Silva, Ben Schiesl and Ashlynn Peters as divers who have qualified twice heading into the platform event on Wednesday.
“I’m pretty happy with the body of work that the men and women have put in thus far,” head diving coach Ron Piemonte said. “They’re all competing at a high level and we’re going to see where the cards fall tomorrow.”
Mauro finished with a final score of 685.85 in the three meter after placing third in the prelims with a 367.60. Schiesl scored a 681.20 to finish fifth while Eduardo rounded out the top 12 with a score of 649.
Peters added the one meter to her list at NCAAs after placing sixth overall with a score of 556.35. Sophomore Ashley Buchter nearly clinched a top 12 score in the one meter as she finished 14th with 507.70.
