GREENSBORO, N.C. – After a weekend where he helped lead the Virginia Tech men’s swimmers to a first place finish at the FGCU Swimming Classic, senior Robert Owen has been named ACC Male Swimmer of the week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Owen earned 77 points for the H2Okies in his individual events and recorded four first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. He registered NCAA B-cut times in both the 400 individual medley (3:53.62) and 200 back (1:45.98). He placed first in both events while also placing first in the 400 medley relay (3:17.78) and 200 IM (1:49.63).
“Robert continues to show the conference and the country his swimming prowess,” head swimming and diving coach Ned Skinner said. “We are proud of this accolade and he has certainly earned it. He is an inspiring young man on many levels."
The ACC weekly honor is the first for Owen, who came off a busy summer where he was named to the USA Swimming National Team and finished sixth overall in the 200 backstroke at U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.
Owen and the H2Okies will take on Penn State this Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center at 11 a.m.
