OMAHA, Neb. -- For the second-consecutive day, the Virginia Tech swimming and diving program saw two swimmers post top 25 finishing times at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha.

Senior Jessica Hespeler finished second in her heat but posted the 19th best time with a 4:13.37 in the preliminaries of the 400 meter freestyle. Classmate Robert Owen, who was an alternate in the finals of yesterday’s 400 meter individual medley, finished 25th and recorded a time of 55.82 in the 100 meter backstroke.

Holly Harper, a spring graduate from Virginia Tech, capped an excellent career by winning her heat with a 1:02.52 time in the 100 meter backstroke.

“There were multiple great swims today,” said head coach Ned Skinner. “Holly ended her great career by winning her heat and posting her best time. Robert was excellent and Jess negative split her race and showed tremendous energy coming home. It was a fun session and we are excited about what’s coming.”

Hespeler will kick off the action for Tech tomorrow in the women’s 200 meter freestyle.
