ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s diving teams completed day two at the 2016 NCAA Zone A Championships with Ashlynn Peters qualifying for the 2016 NCAA Championships and two men’s divers qualifying for a second event.
Ashlynn Peters finished second overall in the 3-meter event with a score of 641.15. With her top-five finish today and her sixth place finish in the 1-meter event yesterday, she has now qualified for both events at the NCAA Championships.
"I'm really proud of Ashlynn Peters today picking up a second place finish. She was rock solid today for us in both the preliminaries and the finals to pick up her NCAA qualifying spot. The men are continuing to show strength in the 1-meter event and I'm looking forward to finishing up with the platform tomorrow," head diving coach Ron Piemonte said.
On the men’s side, they competed in the 1-meter event. Ben Schiesl finished third with a score of 655.75 overall and has now qualified for both the 1-meter and 3-meter event at the NCAA Championships. Logan Stevens finished in seventh with a 600.85. Mauro Castro-Silva finished 11th with a score of 594.55 which is good enough, coupled with his third place finish yesterday in the 3-meter, to also earn him a NCAA spot in the 1-meter.
The divers will be back in the pool tomorrow at 11 a.m. as they conclude the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships with the platform event.
