BLACKSBURG - The 17th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s swimming team is set to compete in the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center from Wednesday, February 25 through Saturday, February 28.

The defending ACC champions finished the regular season third in the ACC standings with a record of 9-1 behind No. 7 NC State and No. 10 Louisville. Their only loss on the year came against No. 15 North Carolina.

The H2Okies have logged seven individual top-five ACC times in the regular season. C.J. Fiala holds the fourth-fastest 50 free time at 19.94. Michal Szuba recorded the fourth-fastest 500 free (4:21.04) and 1650 free (15:11.30) times of the regular season. Jake Ores, who took bronze in the 1650 last season, is right behind Szuba with the fifth-fastest 1650 free time at 15:11.33.

Collin Higgins has the second-fastest 100 back time (47.05) and the third fastest 200 back time (1:42.69). Last season, he took bronze in the 200 back. Morgan Latimer, last year’s 200 fly silver-medalist, holds the third-highest 200 fly time of this season.

Last season, Tech won the ACC Championship, barely sneaking by runner-up NC State. The H2Okies proved their depth, winning the team title with only one individual champion. It was the relay events, however, that gave Tech the big boost in points, where they won two silver medals and three bronze medals in the five relay events of the championships.

The diving portion of the championships was completed last week, where Tech earned a massive 267 points. Logan Stevens won the silver medal in the 3-meter event, and Thomas Shinholser won the bronze medal in the platform. Most impressive of all, Tech had nine top-10 finishes in only three diving events.

Competition for the swimming championships will begin Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay. Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning prelims will begin at 10 a.m., with finals beginning at 6 p.m. A full schedule of events can be found here.

A live video stream of the event finals will be available on ESPN3 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. The live stream can be found here.
