BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech swimming teams are set to host the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center against Penn State, Virginia, Towson, College of Charleston and Arkansas (women).
On Saturday, preliminary races will begin at 10 a.m. with finals resuming at 6 p.m. On Sunday, preliminary races with begin at 10 a.m. again, but the final races will start at 4 p.m.
Saturday’s action begins the championship stretch of the season, where the H2Okies will compete with tournament-style scoring. During the dual-meet portion of the season, which concluded on January 24, the 20th-ranked H2Okie men finished with a record of 9-1. Tech’s women’s squad posted an 11-2 record.
Most recently, Tech swam in the H2Okies’ Senior Day, where they beat Georgia Tech, UNC-Wilmington and Miami (women). In the meet, Tech’s 16 seniors were honored for their exceptional careers.
So far this season, Tech’s men have clocked in eight ACC top-five individual times and three ACC top-three relay times. The women have accounted for 16 ACC top-10 individual times and three ACC top-five times.
The Virginia women’s team comes into this weekend’s meet as the highest-ranked team in the competition, holding the No. 9 spot in the CSCAA poll. The Tech men have the second-highest ranking among the group, holding the No. 20 spot. Additionally, both the men’s and women’s Penn State squads and the Virginia men are receiving votes in the poll.
Tech has already battled both Penn State and Virginia this season. The men were victorious in both meets, ousting Penn State 233-120 and Virginia 218-135. The women came up just short in their meets against the Nittany Lions and the Cavaliers, falling 156-197 to then-No.14 Penn State and 110-243 to then-No. 6 Virginia.

This is a swimming-only event, so there will be no diving competition as part of the meet.
Following this weekend’s event, the H2Okies will next participate in the ACC Championships, which will be on February 18-21 for the women and February 25-28 for the men.
