BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech swimming & diving teams will begin their 2014-15 season on Saturday in the Virginia Tech Swimming & Diving Challenge when they host six teams in the Annual Margaret Soulen Gilbert Breast Cancer Awareness meet.
Tech’s first meet of the year will feature visiting foes from Penn State and Old Dominion on the men’s side and Penn State, Old Dominion, Liberty and James Madison on the women’s side.
The Hokies enter this season coming off of one of their most successful seasons in program history. The men won the ACC Championship and finished 20th in the NCAA Championships. They proved themselves a balanced and deep team, winning the ACC title without a single individual champion.
They are led by senior Collin Higgins, who earned Honorable Mention All-America honors last year after finishing ninth in the 200 yard backstroke at the NCAA Championship.
The women finished 5th in the ACC Championship and 24th in the NCAA Championship. Senior diver Kaylea Arnette won her third-straight ACC Diver of the Year honor and earned three All-America honors.
Junior Weronika Paluszek also returns after earning Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 200 yard breaststroke, where she finished tenth at NCAAs, and the 100 yard breaststroke, where she finished 15th at NCAAs.
Saturday’s event will begin with one level of women’s diving at 9:45 a.m. and swimming will begin at 11 a.m.
Live stats will be available online here and there will be a live stream available on HokiesXtra for free.
