IRVINE, Calif. – At the Phillips 66 National Championships, senior Jake Ores finished 11th in the 1500-meter freestyle on Wednesday and sophomore Robert Owen finished ninth in the 200-meter backstroke on Thursday.
Ores, who won the ACC bronze medal in the 1650-meter freestyle last season, posted a time of 15:16.86 to garner the 11th-place finish at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Complex.
Owen, who competed for the H2Okies at the NCAA Championships last season after finishing eighth in the 200-meter backstroke at the ACC Championships, won the B final after touching the wall in 1:59.78 to earn his ninth-place finish.
He also swam the 400-meter individual medley in 4:23.89 to qualify him for the finals in the same event tonight.
The national event, which features the top American swimmers, is used as a preliminary meet to form the rosters for the US National Team that will compete in the Pan Pacific Championships next month and the world championships next year.
The national event began on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and continues through Sunday, Aug. 10.
