MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Sophomore Weronika Paluszek earned her first career top-10 finish on Saturday evening, taking 10th place in the 200 yard breaststroke to lead the Virginia Tech women’s swimming and diving teams to a 24th-place finish at the NCAA Women’s Championships at Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Paluszek, who took 15th in the 100 breast on Friday evening, clocked a time of 2:08.51 in the B-Final on Saturday night to earn her second Honorable Mention All-American honors in as many days.
Junior Kaylea Arnett capped off her stellar week on the boards with her third All-American nod, this time with a 15th-place finish in the platform event.
After taking third in the 1-meter and 10th in the 3-meter, Arnett tallied 288.20 points in the prelims and 266.80 points in the consolation final to lock up her fifth career All-American honors.
Junior Kelli Stockton (273.80) and freshman Ashley Buchter (268.90) finished back-to-back on the platform, taking home 20th and 21st, respectively.
With their performances on the week, the H2Okies garnered a top-25 finish for the third time in as many seasons. Tech was amongst a very tight group of teams, as the H2Okies trailed 18th-place Penn State by just eight points.
“We are very pleased with our third consecutive top-25 finish,” Head Coach Ned Skinner said. “Our ladies all competed with gusto and I’m very proud of their desire to perform for the cause this week. Kaylea had an outstanding week to score on all three levels and Weronika had a very strong swim tonight to secure a 24th-place finish for us.”
Georgia took home the team championship with 528 points, 125.5 points ahead of second-place Stanford. Complete results for the week can be found at the above link.
While the women wrapped up their season this week in Minneapolis, the men’s team will head to the NCAA Men’s Championships next week, as the H2Okies send a program-record 13 competitors to Austin, Texas on March 27-29.
