GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After a pair of events on the first day of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at Greensboro Aquatic Center, the Virginia Tech women sit in sixth place with 96 points.

The H₂Okies kicked off the championships with a seventh place finish in the 200 medley relay, as junior Margaret Parcell, sophomore Weronika Paluszek and freshmen Maggie Gruber and Fiona Donnelly clocked a 1:39.39 to lower their season-best by almost a second.

In the evening’s other event, Donnelly, senior Katarina Filova, sophomore Gabrielle Bishop and freshman Jessica Hespeler took fifth place in the 800 freestyle relay, touching the wall in 7:10.65, a new season best and an NCAA “B” cut.

The H₂Okies sit in sixth place with 96 points, although just 12 points separate Tech from North Carolina in second place. Virginia leads the way after the first day with 128 points.

Tomorrow’s action will begin at 11 a.m. at Greensboro Aquatic Center, beginning with the preliminaries of the 500 freestyle. Finals for tomorrow’s events will begin at 7 p.m.
