BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech swimming and diving teams will wrap up their regular season this weekend, as the H2Okies play host to the Virginia Tech Invitational at Christiansburg Aquatic Center on February 8-9.

In their last contest, Tech rolled to a dominant sweep of UNC Wilmington, as the women took home a 169.5-125.5 win and the men’s team cruised to a 181-112 victory.

After a strong spring campaign, the men enter this weekend ranked No. 18 in the country by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), one of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the top 25.

The men took home 13 wins that day, led by junior C.J. Fiala, who earned victories in the 50 freestyle and 200 medley relay, and senior Ryan Hawkins, who returned to form with wins in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.

On the women’s side, the H2Okies captured 10 victories, paced by freshmen Jessica Hespeler and Fiona Donnelly, who each won a pair of events for Tech. Freshman Ashley Buchter also took top honors in the 3-meter diving event and third place in the 1-meter, en route to her first career ACC Diver of the Week award.

The H2Okies will welcome swimmers from five schools to the CAC this weekend, as women from Arkansas and Harvard, as well as the men’s team from VMI, will join complete squads from UNCW and Johns Hopkins at the two-day event.

There will be no diving events this weekend, but preliminaries and finals will take place on both Saturday and Sunday. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. on both mornings, whiles finals will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
