GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Freshman Ashley Buchter of the Virginia Tech diving team has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Diver of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
In the H2Okies’ 169.5-125.5 victory against UNC-Wilmington, Buchter recorded a first-place finish in the three-meter board competition, as she recorded a NCAA zone standard score of 353.47. The score, a personal best for Buchter, is the third-best score in the ACC this season. In addition, the three-meter score set a new pool record at UNC-Wilmington.
“Ashley has really been coming together lately with consistency and high-quality dives,” Head Diving Coach Ron Piemonte said. “I am thrilled with where she is right now and this is a great honor for her."
On the one-meter board, Butcher registered a score of 309.82 – also a personal best – that earned her a placement of third and a NCAA zone standard. This was Buchter’s first career weekly conference honor.
This past weekend’s contest marked the H2Okies final dual meet weekend of the season. In two weeks, on Feb. 8-9, Tech will play host to the Virginia Tech Invite at Christiansburg Aquatic Center before the Women’s ACC Championships on Feb. 19-22 and the Men’s ACC Championships on Feb. 26-Mar. 1.
