H2Okies travel to Ohio for pair of weekend meets
Tech men ranked No. 14 in first national poll

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech swimming and diving teams will embark on the 2013-14 season’s first road trip this weekend, as the H2Okies travel to the state of Ohio for a pair of meets on Friday and Saturday.

Tech is back in action for the first time since its home matchup against NC State on October 19. In that contest, the men took home a 185-113 victory over the Wolfpack, with help from junior Owen Burns, who took home three medals on the day.

The women have also competed well in the early goings of the season. The H2Okie divers, led by juniors Kaylea Arnett and Kelli Stockton, have swept the diving events in both of Tech’s competitions this season. Against NC State, freshman Fiona Donnelly asserted herself well in her first career dual meet, capturing a pair of golds in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle.

The efforts of the H2Okies have not gone unnoticed on the national stage. In the season’s first CSCAA National Poll, the Tech men check in at No. 14. The first women’s poll has not been released yet.

On Friday evening, Tech will travel to Columbus, Ohio for a meet against Ohio State, Cleveland State and Denison. OSU's men check in at No. 11 in the CSCAA rankings, with dual match victories over Kentucky and Kenyon already this season.

CSU's men are the defending champions of the Horizon League and defeated Green Bay in a dual meet last week, 149-92. Denison is 2-0 in dual meets thus far, with wins over Wabash and Malone.

Saturday afternoon will see the H2Okies in their first dual meet away from home, as they take on Cincinnati. The Bearcats earned victories from the men and women against Xavier, their only other dual meet so far this season.

Action is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. The diving portion of Saturday’s event will begin at 11 a.m., while the swimming portion will kick off at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for Friday’s event.
